Jana McGuire started volunteering with North Delta baseball in 2006 when she and her family moved to North Delta.

During Jana's time involved with North Delta Baseball she held positions of score keeper, registrar, team manager and board member at large. When her youngest son joined Blastball in 2011, she recognized he needed a program that accommodated his unique challenges. Jana wondered how many other families needed a similar opportunity for their children. Through a social media appeal and speaking to families in the community many parents expressed their desire for a program that served their children’s special needs. Challenger Baseball was born in 2011.  It took a village of family volunteers and the co-operation of North Delta Baseball, but over the years, children with special needs have experienced the joy of playing baseball.  During her 8 years running the challenger program the program started with 8 players and grew to 19.

In 2018 after 12 years of volunteering Jana made the emotional decision to venture on to new things and Sheryl Grey took over the program and Challenger Baseball has expanded into a program that continues to give the opportunity for all of North Delta’s children to participate in sports no matter what there challenges may be.
