About NDBA's Association

North Delta Baseball Association (NDBA) has been providing youth baseball to the community of North Delta for over 45 years.  We can proudly say that a number of players which have gone through our association have been drafted by major league baseball teams.  Most recently, Jeff Francis was drafted 9th overall by the Colorado Rockies.  Jeff played for North Delta from T-ball through Midget.  Several other players have received scholarships to universities and colleges in Canada and the United States.

NDBA provides training to all of our coaches at no cost to them.  We actively encourage our coaches to continually upgrade their skills.  Any parents interested in coaching should let their divisions representative or manager know to be included in the clinics.  We will be holding coaching clinics throughout the season.

Our association is run entirely by volunteers. There are no paid positions within our Executive.  Executive members pay the same fees as any other member of the association.

We provide youth baseball for players ages 4 through 18 (preschool through grade 12). As a service to our members and as a way to offset operating costs we operate concessions at all of our parks. The concessions are staffed by parents of our players. We serve hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, pop, candy, freezies etc. Each concession is run by a concession manager.

Parent Responsibilities

We appreciate the parents setting a positive example for the players. This means lots of encouragement and cheering. Parents of younger players must remain with their children or have a responsible adult present at all times.

Parents are expected to bring the players to the opening and closing ceremonies, games and practices on time. One of the other ways parents are expected to help is concession duty.

Prior to games parents are needed to help prepare the field and keep score during the games.

Parents are encouraged to bring a glove to the practices and help out. The more parents we have helping the more practice the players will get. We encourage you to practice at home with your child. If we can be of any assistance in this regard, please let us know. We encourage questions from parents on the proper techniques, if you don’t know please ask.

There is no smoking permitted by the league anywhere near the kids!

Coaching

Coaching clinics are offered free of charge should you wish to volunteer your time to manage or coach a team. Dates for these are available from Baseball B.C. at 604-737-3031. The "manager" is the head coach in charge of the team, equipment, uniforms, etc. The "coach" assists at games and practices. Managers and coaches must hold complete Level I and Level II Technical certification to be eligible to coach post-season teams. Full Coaching Level II is required for "AAA" Allstar teams.   Although it is not mandatory, the North Delta Baseball Association encourages coaches at all levels to complete a minimum of level I technical. All coaches and managers are required to complete the North Delta Baseball Association's Application to Coach. These forms will be available from the reps on draft night.

Umpires

As well as supporting players and coaching development we also provide a parallel path for umpires. Umpires are paid for umpiring games by NDBA through concession proceeds

Welcome all to another year of baseball. As Umpire-In-Chief, I, Brad Woof, again personally look forward to working with all of North Delta’s Umpires, particularly improving our newer Umpires and moving our more experienced Umpires thru the levels. In that regard, the NDBA UDP continues to be part of the British Columbia Baseball Umpires Association (BCBUA). We are however adjusting the minimum age for umpiring to 11 years of age but will offer the same clinic structure as last year for Level 1 and 2, with continued emphasis in on field development, and practical application of the rules and procedures in an on field setting. Furthermore, this year the Advanced Clinic is available for senior umpires, those 16 years of age or older, who have been a Level 2 for at least 2 years; those eligible may apply to the NDBA UDP for sponsorship to attend, which is a 2-day out of area course, and obtain their Level 3 designation (see Clinic Dates 2010 distribution for more information). So whether you are a new umpire or a returning umpire, have a great 2010. If more information is required, or if you have any questions or comments, feel free to call me at; (778) 786-4083 or e-mail me at rasher0123@hotmail.com.

 Yours truly,

-Brad Woof, Umpire-In-Chief –
